How to plan a 2-on, 2-off shift schedule

A 2-on, 2-off schedule repeats every four days: two working days followed by two days off. The cycle continues across weeks and months, so it does not stay on the same weekdays.

Start with an anchor date

Find a date you know is the first of your two working days. Starting on the second working day will move every future shift by one day. If your rota begins halfway through a cycle, move the anchor back to the first day.

Create the shift before the pattern

In Templates, set the name, start and end time, break and color. Then create a four-day pattern: shift, shift, empty, empty. Use a Day off template instead of an empty day if you want rest days visibly labelled.

Preview a month first

Apply the cycle to a short range and compare it with your actual rota. ShiftPlum skips dates that already have events unless you allow overlap. Check the first and last working days before applying a longer range.

Keep swaps as individual changes

If you swap a shift, edit that event. Do not move the entire rotation unless the real pattern changed. Existing shifts keep their original values even when you later update a template.
