How to add your shift schedule to Google Calendar

You can take a copy of your ShiftPlum schedule into Google Calendar by exporting an ICS file and importing it there. For ongoing updates, consider a read-only calendar feed instead. Choose the method first: a downloaded file and a subscription behave differently after you edit a shift.

Choose a snapshot or a subscription

An ICS export is useful when you want to keep a specific version of a schedule. ShiftPlum exports events from the calendar and date range you select. A subscription uses a feed URL from a sharing link in your account, so a compatible calendar can request updated data.

Neither option is two-way editing between ShiftPlum and Google Calendar. Decide where you will maintain the schedule, then treat the other calendar as a copy or a read-only view. Otherwise you can end up making different corrections in two places.

Prepare a short, clean export

In ShiftPlum, open Export, select the work calendar, choose a short date range and download ICS. Start with a few days containing a normal shift and an overnight one. The file includes the selected events; it is not a list of paid hours.

Review titles, notes and locations before passing the file to another service. Your own ICS export can contain those details. A CSV hours report is intended for spreadsheet work and is not a substitute for the calendar file.

Import the ICS file on a computer

In Google Calendar on the web, open Settings, then Import & export. Select your .ics file, choose the destination calendar and import it. A separate destination calendar makes the imported schedule easier to identify. Google's import guide confirms that imported events do not stay synchronized.

Check the imported events before extending the range

Compare the first and last event in the sample, then open the overnight event. Check both its start and end dates. Compare the time-zone settings in the two calendars if the displayed times differ: the same instant can appear at different local times.

Check an all-day event if you use day-off labels. Once the sample looks right, export the period you need. Avoid repeatedly importing overlapping files without checking the destination; do not rely on a second import to update a previously copied shift.

Use the feed URL when you need a subscription

In your ShiftPlum account, create a read-only sharing link and use its calendar feed URL, not the ordinary page URL. Review the notes setting and expiry before copying it. The feed includes a rolling window from 90 days before the current date through 366 days after it; it is not a full historical export.

Google documents adding a published calendar through Other calendars → From URL in a computer browser. Enter the feed URL there. Availability and refresh are controlled by the receiving service, so verify that your events appear and do not assume an urgent swap will show immediately.

Review sharing settings and link privacy.

Know what revoking a link can and cannot do

Treat the feed address as access to the calendar content it exposes. Do not post it publicly if you intend it for a limited audience. An expired or revoked ShiftPlum link stops future access through that link, but it cannot erase copies already downloaded or cached elsewhere.

After a confirmed shift swap, correct the source schedule and check the receiving calendar. For a file import, manage the old copy explicitly before importing a replacement. Keep the latest schedule easy to identify so you do not arrive for a shift that exists only in an outdated copy.

Update the source after a shift swap.
